confession time…uh oh.

For those of you who know me, this isn’t new news but for my readers who are getting to know me through these posts, might find it a surprise that I am not much of a kid person.

Don’t get me wrong. I love kids. They just really don’t like me…and I like to be liked, therefore we more or less just tolerate each other.

For the longest time I have told people that I love to shoot children. (with my camera, of course) The reason for this is that they have yet to become aware of what a camera is so there is so less of a chance that they will clam up when it’s in their face. They are able to be natural and because I love to shoot candidly, this is usually a great thing.

This week I had the opportunity to do something I haven’t been challenged with before. My friend Julia has twin nephews and I have always wanted to add some twins to my portfolio. As chance would have it, her sister is also in town and has been wanting to get pictures with her daughter and the boys, so while we were hanging out at Oktoberfest, she asked me if I would want to do them! I jumped at the chance.

My oh my, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Shooting three kids under the age of 2 is really tough stuff! Kudos to anyone who has done this and succeeded. I had such a difficult time keeping their attention and when I would finally get two to look at me, the other one would walk off. It was pretty close to impossible! I had props and distractions and mothers around for support but they were all on different pages and I realized how rusty I was! I am so glad for the opportunity that they gave me because I could tell that it had for sure been a while since I had had to FOCUS that much on a shoot but I tried my best and I think I managed to get some pretty great portraits, even if the ones of the three of them were kind of chaotic.

In saying this, I totally realize I might be shooting myself in the foot for future clients, but hey, I am and will always be honest, and I can point you in the direction of some great children’s photographers if you don’t like my style.

I think this was good for me though. I will continue to shoot kids…I know I need the practice! annnnd I am in a great place to do so. It seems like there are babies everywhere I turn. Whew! I feel like I just shared a huge secret but then I realize that none of my friends ever ask me to babysit…so I think it’s pretty obvious. haha.

I put this in here for good humor. The “I’m pooping” faces.

Enjoy the pictures. I think my favorite has to be the one’s of grandpa. Oh the love…so sweet!!
